A gentleman with a refined sense of charm and joie de vivre once came to our island. He fell hopelessly in love with the town of Hvar and decided to buy a house by the sea that will become a wonderful fusion of the French Riviera and Dalmatian dreams, an ode to the modern Mediterranean.
Villa Features
All the villas in the Villas Hvar collection bear the names of Greek gods because it was the Greeks who lived on Hvar before everyone else. Hvarians feel an unbreakable bond with the Greeks and their history. In Greek religion, the sea god Nereus, or the "Old Man of the Sea" as Homer named him, was noted for his wisdom, gift of prophecy, and ability to change his shape.
Villa Nereus has been given a name that perfectly suits its location by the sea, but also its appearance, which changes depending on the perspective from which you look at it.
Nereus is a villa with 1000 faces, and each is more beautiful than the other. The very fact that we have been preparing for a very long time to write a text that would suit this villa says something about the complexity and uniqueness of Nereus. Yes, Nereus is special, Nereus is especially beautiful inside and out, and Nereus has what few villas have, not only on Hvar but worldwide.
This is our perspective of Villa Nereus. The facts say the following.
Villa Nereus was built in 1980, renovated and expanded in 2011 for the first time, and completely renovated with the addition of new terraces and an infinity pool in 2021. Nereus is located right next to the sea, in one of the most beautiful parts of the town of Hvar called Majerovica. The villa is located about 1 km from the city center or the main town square and 100 m from Hula Hula beach bar. Although the beach bar is close by, the location of the villa makes sure that nothing interferes with your Hvar zen.
In front of the villa there is a small float so you can easily get into the sea, and the first pebble beach is about 200 m away. If you do not want to rent a boat for day trips, which we warmly recommend, you can explore the beautiful Pakleni islands by taxi boat from a nearby larger pontoon. If you want to rent a boat and skipper, do not hesitate to contact us, just please do it on time. It will take you 60 minutes from Split airport to the villa by private speedboat, which we can also arrange at your request.
It’s time to get to know the villa and everything that makes it special apart from its extraordinary location.
Villa Nereus has an interior area of 350m2 plus a pergola of an additional 50m2. The villa is located on a property of 900m2. There is a total of nine bedrooms spanning across the three upper floors of the villa, and the lower ground floor of the house has a separate entrance and another bedroom with an en-suite bathroom.
You can enter the property of Villa Nereus from two sides: from the coast and from the side street.
Let's say you enter from the coast. As soon as you enter the main gate, you will immediately notice on the right side a door of a garage used exclusively by the owner, so pay no attention to that door.
After climbing about 10 steps, to your right you’ll see a spacious sun deck with outdoor furniture, sofa, deck chairs, etc. The view of the city, the sea, and Pakleni islands is to die for, without exaggeration. Villa Nereus is a large villa, full of intricacies, so please check the details in our photo gallery. Of course, we are here for all the questions and concerns you may have after reading this text.
To the left of the sundeck, you’ll see a small, beautiful Mediterranean garden with pine trees that have a long tradition and history, but also a new infinity pool that has yet to write its modern history. The pool is 35m2 in size, and again we won’t be exaggerating when we say that you’ll be hard pressed to swim in a pool on Hvar that has a more exclusive and prestigious location than this one.
And what does the interior look like? The interior looks exquisite, like French women. Airy, natural, simple, subtle, chic. The dominant colors are white, turquoise, green, ocher, gray, and the materials range from wood and fabric to metal, rattan…
The description of the layout of the villa is as follows.
On the ground floor of the villa, there is a separate fully equipped kitchen and a spacious living room with a dining room of 42m2 and a large glass door that gives the space a lot of light and adds a feeling of freshness despite the high summer temperatures. The ground floor has two bedrooms of 12m2 and 20m2 with respective en-suite bathrooms. The living room and dining room, as well as one bedroom, open onto the main terrace of approximately 30m2, which you’ve just crossed from the outside. There is also a wonderfully designed pool (no, not all pools are beautiful), but also perfectly comfortable and beautiful sun loungers alongside it. The view is still magical, enchanting, and strangely addictive. You should dose all that beauty carefully, keeping in mind that there are other bookings after yours and that you can't stay in the villa forever, even though you might feel a strong urge to do so... Instead, here's your chance to be in the here and now and enjoy every moment in life. And yours is, obviously, amazing.
On the west side of the house there is a beautifully constructed pergola with an outstanding outdoor kitchen and an outdoor dining area overlooking the infinity pool, pine trees, and the sea. There is also a bar, bar stools, professional kitchen equipment, a professional grill… The smell of grilled fish mixes with the scents of resin and salt. Is there a more beautiful thing? The scents and colors of the Mediterranean can rarely be experienced so strongly, so intoxicatingly, as on the terraces of Nereus. A detail that we particularly love and appreciate in this space is the old pine tree, which was not removed during the renovation, but the renovation was done in a way that everything in the space adapts to the old pine tree, which has rightly become a star. A small but beautiful example of the coexistence of nature and man in harmony.
The first floor of Villa Nereus, which can be reached from the back of the villa on the outside but also from the inside, consists of four bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom and balcony facing east, south, and west respectively, overlooking the open sea. The sizes of the bedrooms are 11m2, 13m2, 18m2, and 22m2. On the first floor, there is a fifth bedroom of 10m2 without an en-suite bathroom, which can be reached through one of the already mentioned four bedrooms.
This might be a good time to mention that all bedrooms have matrimonial beds (160 cm). Three bedrooms, one on the low ground floor, one on the first floor and one in the attic, have kitchenettes. Only one bedroom – the separate one on the low ground floor – has a bathroom with a bathtub; all other bathrooms in the villa have shower tray.
You enter the second floor, that is, the attic from an outside entrance at the back of the villa. In the attic of the villa there are two large bedrooms, each with its an en-suite bathroom, one of which has a separate wardrobe. Both rooms have access to fenced balconies from which you can see how beautiful the exterior of the villa is from a bird's eye view, but also how divine the view of the open sea, the town of Hvar, and the Pakleni islands is...
This is where we come to the end of our imaginary walk through Villa Nereus.
Nereus is actually an ideal villa in an ideal location for anyone who can afford a high-end Hvar holiday experience. Although it is ideal for couples, friends, and families, the owner has a type of clients he prefers, and Villas Hvar supports him in that decision (without a doubt). We’ll have to avoid party people – sorry – as well as people who will not take care of Nereus as if it's their own home, full of valuable details. And these details are the reason why the damage deposit of Nereus is really high.
Thank you for understanding in advance.
Enjoy your holiday in this little paradise.
